Author Guidelines

Journal of Qualitative Research (JQR) welcomes submissions that contribute to the advancement of knowledge in the field of qualitative inquiry, with a particular focus on research exploring human experiences, social phenomena, cultural contexts, and methodological innovation. To ensure a smooth submission process and maintain the academic integrity of the journal, the following author guidelines should be followed:

MANUSCRIPT CATEGORIZATION

Authors submitting to Journal of Qualitative Research (JQR) are required to categorize their manuscript according to the type that best reflects the focus and methodology of the study. The following categories are recognized:

  • Qualitative Research Article. This category includes original empirical studies employing qualitative methodologies such as phenomenology, ethnography, grounded theory, narrative inquiry, case study, or participatory action research. Manuscripts should present in-depth investigations of human experiences, social phenomena, cultural practices, or educational and organizational contexts, contributing new insights and understanding to the field.
  • Literature Review. This category provides a comprehensive synthesis of existing qualitative research on a specific topic, presenting an overview of theoretical and methodological developments, key findings, and future directions. Literature reviews should critically analyze primary sources and highlight gaps, trends, and implications for qualitative inquiry.
  • Methodological Paper. This category focuses on the development, refinement, or evaluation of qualitative research methods. Topics include innovative data collection techniques, coding and analysis strategies, ethical considerations, methodological frameworks, or integration of technology in qualitative research.
  • Conceptual or Theoretical Paper. Conceptual papers are not based on original empirical data but aim to develop theoretical models, frameworks, or critical perspectives related to qualitative research. These manuscripts may explore philosophical underpinnings, epistemological debates, or comparative studies of qualitative approaches.
  • Case Study. This category describes specific interventions, projects, or experiences using qualitative inquiry within organizations, communities, or educational settings. Case studies emphasize rich, contextualized understanding, highlighting practical insights, lessons learned, or applied strategies, rather than statistical generalization.
